Congleton In Bloom Our In Your Neighbourhood Garden
Congleton in Bloom – In Your Neighbourhood Garden Competition
Over the past few months, our children and staff have been working incredibly hard in preparation for the Congleton in Bloom – In Your Neighbourhood judges’ visit. This exciting project has been woven into our curriculum, with each garden providing wonderful opportunities for learning, creativity and teamwork.
Each class designed and created a themed garden inspired by a favourite children’s story or character.
The Stick Man Garden
Inspired by the much-loved story Stick Man, this garden was packed with exciting activities for the children to enjoy. It featured story sequencing activities, a fun challenge, beautiful plants, and lots of colourful artwork and handmade bunting created by the children. The children also made their own stick creations, bringing the story to life in a creative and engaging way.
The Cars Garden
Based on the popular Cars story, this garden focused on road safety alongside imaginative play. It included story sequencing painted onto stones, recycled flowers made from bottle tops, plant pot cars, and a fantastic garden display created using recycled and brightly painted tyres. Sustainability was at the heart of the design, showing how everyday materials can be transformed into something beautiful.
The Alice in Wonderland Garden
Our magical Alice in Wonderland garden featured playing card-themed bunting, wonderful artwork created by the children, and a beautifully arranged Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. It truly captured the imagination and transported visitors into the whimsical world of Wonderland.
The Bluey Garden
Inspired by the much-loved Bluey books and television series, this garden was filled with exciting learning opportunities and interactive activities for the children. It featured a fantastic Bluey car and a swing made from a recycled, hand-painted tyre, demonstrating how creativity and sustainability can work hand in hand.
The Gracie Garden
One of the most special gardens was dedicated to our wonderful team member, Gracie. Gracie usually takes part in our garden competition, but sadly she has been unable to this year as she is receiving treatment for cancer. To show our love and support, we created the Gracie Garden especially for her. We were delighted that Gracie was able to visit on the day the judges came, making the occasion even more meaningful for everyone.
Choosing a Winner
The standard of all the gardens was exceptional, making it incredibly difficult to choose a winner. In the end, it was declared a draw between the Cars Garden and the Bluey Garden, with both teams producing imaginative, colourful and educational displays.
Learning Through Nature
This project has been a fantastic part of our Eco and Sustainability learning. Throughout the process, the children have learned how to grow vegetables and plants, explored biodiversity, and discovered the importance of caring for our environment. They have developed new skills while working together, using recycled materials creatively and taking pride in helping our outdoor spaces flourish.
We were incredibly proud to welcome the Britain in Bloom national judges, who were full of praise for the hard work, creativity and enthusiasm shown by both the children and staff. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring each of our themed gardens and seeing first-hand the wonderful learning opportunities they provided.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this project such a success. It has been a fantastic journey, and we are so proud of everything our children have achieved. We look forward to creating even more exciting outdoor learning experiences in the future!
